Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint Peter, patron saint of Cologne, depicted in episcopal vestments with a halo, holding a large key in his right hand and a book in his left. The saint is rendered in high relief in the late Gothic hammered tradition, occupying the entirety of the coin's field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the figure, reading ADOLP D G ARCH EPIS COLO, identifying Archbishop Adolph of Schauenburg by divine grace as Archbishop of Cologne.

Reverse description Elaborately quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Cologne surmounted by an electoral bonnet and flanked by ornate foliate and scrollwork decoration. The shield displays the arms of Cologne (a cross), Schauenburg (a nettle leaf or star), Westphalia (a horse), and other territorial quarterings associated with the see. The date 1554 appears within the circular Latin legend, which reads MO NO ARG TVICI 1554, denoting the new silver money of the city.
