Obverse description Central field displays the ornate crowned coat of arms of the Free City of Bremen, depicting the silver key of Bremen on a shield supported by two rampant lions as heraldic supporters on either side. The civic crown surmounts the shield above an elaborately scrolled cartouche, with the date 1748 appearing in an oval tablet at the base. The circumferential Latin legend reads MON . LIB . REIP : BREMENS 1748, denoting the coinage of the Free Republic of Bremen. The overall composition is rendered in high relief in the Baroque style, with finely detailed mane and mane textures on the lion supporters and intricate acanthus foliate ornamentation on the cartouche.
