| 表面の説明 | Laureate and draped bust of Holy Roman Emperor Karl VII (Charles VII) facing right, wearing armor with an elaborate lace cravat and the order chain of the Golden Fleece visible at the chest. The emperor's long, flowing periwig is rendered in fine baroque detail. The circular Latin legend runs along the toothed border, reading CAR • VII • D • G • ROM • IMP • S • A • B • R •, abbreviating his full imperial and electoral titles. |

Dortmund was a Free Imperial City of the Holy Roman Empire, and its right to strike silver coinage was perpetually contested. By 1742 the city's monetary authority had long been in decline — this thaler belongs to a thin late series issued well after Dortmund's commercial peak, when the city retained the legal privilege of coinage largely as a matter of civic pride rather than economic necessity. Few were struck, and fewer still entered wide circulation.
The Dav GT II reference places this alongside the broader German thaler corpus, but Dortmund issues of this period are genuinely scarce in any condition.
