Hildesheim's civic coinage of this period reflects the city's peculiar dual status — simultaneously a free imperial city and continuously pressured by the surrounding Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim, which finally absorbed it in 1803. The city maintained its minting rights jealously, and the .2 variety distinction in KM#260 points to a die revision mid-production, likely reflecting a change in the contracted die-cutter rather than any administrative shift.
