Beschrijving voorzijde At center, the Frankfurt eagle displayed on a heart-shaped shield, superimposed upon an ornate floriated cross with elaborate foliate terminals extending to the four cardinal points, all within a beaded inner circle. A circular legend surrounds the design, reading MONETA NOVA REIPUB: FRANCOFURTENSIS, with decorative stops separating the words. The composition is rendered in a high-relief baroque style characteristic of German municipal coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.

Aanvullende informatie

Frankfurt struck this thaler during the final negotiations of the Thirty Years' War, when the city was simultaneously hosting the preliminary peace conferences that would culminate in the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. The free imperial city had spent the war years navigating an exceptionally precarious neutrality, quartering troops from multiple belligerents while attempting to preserve its commercial privileges and mint rights.

The Dav. 5295 designation places this within a well-documented sequence, but survivors in collectible grades are scarce — Frankfurt's wartime economy meant these thalers circulated hard.
