On the breast of the eagle, an oval shield bears an armored draped bust of Emperor Ferdinand II facing right, set within a beaded cartouche. The peripheral legend reads FERDINAND·II·D·G·ROM· on the right and A·V·G·H·B·REX· on the left, identifying the Holy Roman Emperor.
