Aanvullende informatie

These years bracket the worst phase of Nuremberg's exposure to the Thirty Years' War. The city had formally allied with the Protestant Union but pursued an anxious neutrality in practice, pouring resources into fortifications and paying tribute to avoid occupation. The municipal treasury was under severe strain, and thaler production during this window reflects deliberate civic signaling as much as monetary need — large silver coins projected solvency that the city's actual finances did not fully support.

The 53mm flan is notably broad for a single thaler, a format Nuremberg favored to maximize die surface for its elaborate civic imagery. Kelln 233 is occasionally found with die-alignment variations that suggest multiple working dies were in use simultaneously across the four-year span.
