附加信息

Halberstadt in 1626 was caught directly in the opening campaigns of the Danish Phase of the Thirty Years' War. Christian IV of Denmark had entered the conflict the previous year, and the surrounding region was being systematically stripped of resources by passing armies — both imperial and Protestant. Municipal coinages like this one were often driven by acute silver shortages and disrupted trade rather than any civic ambition, with city councils melting whatever plate remained after military requisitions.

The bishopric of Halberstadt was administered as a secularized Protestant territory from 1591, a status the Catholic imperial forces were actively working to reverse. It was formally returned to Catholic control under the Edict of Restitution in 1629, just three years after this thaler was struck.
