Brunswick issued this thaler during the opening decade of the Thirty Years' War, when the Lower Saxon Circle became a primary theater of conflict following Christian IV of Denmark's disastrous intervention in 1625. The city's coinage from this window reflects chronic monetary pressure — the Kipper und Wipper inflation of 1619–1623 had only just collapsed, leaving mints across the region scrambling to restore confidence in full-weight silver coinage. This piece belongs to that recovery effort.
The KM#30.2 designation distinguishes it from the earlier die pairing, with Jesse#134 providing the most precise attribution for the series within the city's municipal output.
