| Obverse description | The city arms of Hamburg occupy the central field, depicting a three-towered fortified castle gateway rendered in fine detail, with arched portcullises below and battlemented towers above. The design is enclosed within an inner beaded border. A Latin legend encircles the periphery incorporating the date, reading MONETA.NOVA.CIVI:HAMBURGENSIS followed by the year, with the legend beginning at the top and running clockwise around the field.
