Obverse lettering MONETA NOVA LUNEBURGENSIS
Reverse description Central device features a large imperial double-headed eagle displayed, with wings spread, each head crowned and the beaks open. On the eagle's breast is an orb surmounted by a cross, symbolising imperial sovereignty. The eagle's plumage is rendered in fine hammered detail consistent with early seventeenth-century German workshop practice. A single imperial crown is depicted above the two heads. The surrounding Latin legend, reading MATTHIAS D G ROM IMP SEMP AVG, identifies the reigning Holy Roman Emperor Matthias and is distributed around the periphery within a beaded border.
