| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device features a large spread imperial double-headed eagle with wings displayed, each head surmounted by a separate crown and both crowned together by a single imperial crown above. On the breast of the eagle, a circular orb bearing the value designation is superimposed. The surrounding legend, reading MAXIMILIANVS II D G ROM IMP SEM AVG, identifies the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II as the issuing authority, running between inner and outer beaded borders. The execution is characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century German hammered coinage, with bold relief and confident die-cutting. |
