The Apracharajas were a dynasty of petty kings ruling in the Bajaur region of modern northwestern Pakistan, operating as vassals caught between the competing pressures of the Kushans to the north and the Indo-Parthians to the west. Their coinage is known almost entirely from hoards — systematic excavation of the region has been minimal, and most specimens reaching the market passed through the informal antiquities trade of Peshawar and Kabul before any archaeological context was recorded. Senior's reference work remains the primary catalog for the series, assembled largely from dealer stocks rather than stratified dig evidence.
