The mint master's initials M and R flank the shield to left and right respectively. The date 1558 appears at the top of the field, flanking the crown. The surrounding Latin legend reads MARIA · DEI · G · SCOTOR · REGINA, disposed around the circumference of the coin in a characteristically irregular hammered style. |
