| Obverse description | Central field displays the papal arms of Camerlengo Paluzzo Paluzzi Altieri, an ovoid shield charged with six six-pointed stars arranged in a pattern, framed by an ornate cartouche. The shield is surmounted by the umbraculum (papal canopy or baldachin), the traditional emblem of the Sede Vacante authority, depicted in elaborate relief with fringed tiers. Flanking the central composition are the crossed keys of Saint Peter, interlaced with decorative cords ending in tassels. The circumferential Latin legend reads SEDE VACANTE with the Roman numeral date MDCLXXXXI, separated by a pellet ornament, all contained within a reeded border. |
