| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold cartouche with an elaborately moulded Baroque frame, adorned with foliate scrollwork, laurel sprigs, and ornamental flourishes at the top and bottom. Within the cartouche, the four-line Latin motto MELIVS / EST · DARE / QVAM / ACCIPERE is rendered in large, well-spaced raised capital letters filling the central field. The surrounding decorative border is composed of interlaced acanthus and scroll motifs characteristic of the Roman Baroque medallic tradition. The coin's milled edge is visible at the periphery, and the overall composition conveys the charitable motto — 'It is better to give than to receive' — with monumental clarity befitting papal coinage of the period. |
