Reverse description An allegorical semi-draped female figure personifying Commoditas (Convenience of Roads) reclines in the field, holding a wagon wheel in her extended left hand, symbolizing Clement XII's program of road improvements in the Papal States. The figure is rendered in a Baroque style with flowing drapery and rocky ground beneath. The Roman numeral date MDCC XXXVI is inscribed in the exergue, flanked by a papal arms cartouche at center. The circular legend COMMODITAS·VIARVM·REDVX arcs along the upper periphery within a milled border.

Additional information

Clement XII is better remembered for commissioning the Trevi Fountain than for monetary policy, but his reign produced a sustained program of road and infrastructure improvement across the Papal States that this coin directly commemorates. The legend references the restoration of road networks — a genuine administrative priority, not ceremonial flattery.

He was also blind for the last decade of his pontificate, governing largely through his nephew Cardinal Neri Corsini.
