| Descrizione del rovescio | A prominent baroque cartouche, richly adorned with foliate and scrollwork ornament including a cherub mask at the top and a small heraldic device at the base, encloses a four-line inscription in bold Roman capitals occupying the entire central field. The cartouche is flanked by symmetrical acanthus scrolls lending a pronounced baroque character to the composition. The milled border with beaded inner circle mirrors the treatment of the obverse, imparting a uniform and elegant presentation to the piece. |

Clement XI's pontificate was dominated almost entirely by the War of the Spanish Succession, during which Imperial forces under Joseph I invaded and occupied papal territories in 1708, forcing Clement to recognize the Habsburg claimant to Spain under humiliating terms. The papal treasury was under severe strain throughout these years, and silver coinage production was erratic.
The CNI references spanning two separate number ranges suggest this type was struck from multiple die marriages across the emission period, a not uncommon situation for testonnes of this pontificate.
