| Reverse description | The Porta Santa (Holy Door) of St. Peter's Basilica depicted in precise architectural elevation, shown closed and sealed with a large cross motif affixed to the panelled door. The doorway is framed by two fluted Corinthian columns supporting a classical triangular pediment, above which a six-pointed star appears in the tympanum. This imagery commemorates the closing of the Holy Door by Clement XI at the conclusion of the Jubilee Year 1700. The surrounding Latin legend CLAVSIT ANNO IVBILEI MDCC records the act of closure and the jubilee year in Roman numerals. |
