Reverse description The reverse presents a dynamic Baroque allegorical composition depicting the Immaculate Conception: the Virgin Mary stands in three-quarter figure, robed and draped, holding a long cross-staff and cradling the Christ Child, both figures enveloped in radiating glory rays emanating from above. Beneath her feet, a serpent and globe are shown crushed or subjugated, symbolising triumph over sin. Billowing clouds fill the lower field on either side of the figures. The date MDCCVII appears in the exergue, divided by a small papal emblem, with the engraver's initials 'E·H' visible at lower left. The circumferential legend CAVSA NRÆ LÆTITIA, meaning 'Cause of our joy' — a Marian title — runs around the border, punctuated by stops.
