Reverse description Samson seated in three-quarter view facing left, nude save for a helmet, perched upon a large circular shield or drum, and holding aloft a lion's head from which bees or honeybees emerge, referencing the biblical episode of Judges 14. To the left, a flowering plant rises from a vase on the ground line, adding a decorative Renaissance element to the composition. The surrounding Latin legend ·DE·FORTI·DVLCEDO· ('sweetness out of the strong') alludes directly to Samson's riddle, all enclosed within a beaded border.
