Obverse description Draped bust of Eric of Lorraine, Bishop of Verdun, facing left, depicted bearded and wearing ecclesiastical vestments with a ruffled collar, rendered in a high-relief Renaissance portrait style characteristic of early seventeenth-century French ecclesiastical coinage. The effigy is set within a raised inner circle. The surrounding legend reads: + ERRICVS A LOTH EPS ET COM VIR, identifying Eric of Lorraine as bishop and count of Verdun. The coin is bordered by a beaded outer ring.
