Additional information

Khoqand's tengas of this period were struck under a khan whose grip on power was never secure — Muhammad Khudayar Khan was deposed and restored to the throne three separate times before Russian forces finally absorbed the khanate in 1876. These coins circulated through one of Central Asia's most commercially active corridors, the Fergana Valley, where they competed with Bukharan and Russian silver in daily bazaar trade.

The Type 2 distinction reflects a die revision mid-reign, though the khanate's minting practices were notoriously inconsistent in flan preparation and striking pressure.
