| Obverse description | Three-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged horizontally across the field within a plain inner circle, bordered by a beaded outer ring. The legends are struck in bold, angular Kufic characters typical of Norman-Sicilian imitative coinage derived from Fatimid prototypes. The script occupies the full width of the flan, with each line of text clearly delineated. The irregular flan edges are characteristic of the hammered technique employed in this period. |
