| Obverse description | Armored bust of Philip II of Spain facing right, rendered in the coarse hammered style typical of Neapolitan coinage of the mid-to-late sixteenth century. The king is depicted with curled hair and wearing a cuirass with visible armor detailing at the shoulder and chest. The portrait occupies the central field with a circular Latin legend surrounding the effigy. The die work is characteristic of the Naples Mint, with uneven flan and irregular coin shape consistent with hand-struck production. |
