Alof de Wignacourt served as Grand Master of the Order from 1601 until his death in 1622, a tenure long enough to produce multiple copper issue types — which is precisely why Restelli's numbering matters here. The tari coinage of this period was struck at the Order's Valletta mint, established after the Great Siege of 1565 forced a fundamental rethinking of Malta's infrastructure and defensive capacity.
Copper issues from this reign circulated hard among the laboring population and seldom survived without significant wear.
