Arakan's coinage in the late eighteenth century reflects a kingdom under mounting pressure — Bodawpaya's Burmese forces invaded and annexed the region in 1784, ending over three centuries of Arakanese independence. A coin struck in 1782 sits just two years ahead of that conquest, likely among the final issues of an unbroken regal series. The Thamada denomination itself follows a weight standard with roots in the Bengal taka tradition, absorbed and adapted across coastal trade networks linking Arakan to both Mughal and Burmese monetary systems.
