The marginal legend surrounding the central square names the four Rightly Guided Caliphs — Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali — distributed across the four sides, a common legitimizing formula on Suri coinage. The Hijri regnal year 948 appears in the margin, corresponding to approximately 1542 CE. The die work is executed in a bold, deeply struck naskh style characteristic of Sher Shah Suri's reformed coinage, with the entire surface covered in calligraphy and no figural or geometric decorative elements. |
