Beschrijving voorzijde Hammered copper flan of irregular round form bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription in bold Naskh script, divided by a prominent horizontal line across the field. The upper register displays the royal titulature in raised relief, while the lower register carries a continuation of the legend. The striking is characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Gujarati mint practice, with letters rendered in a thick, somewhat cursive hand. The coin exhibits an olive-brown patina with areas of green copper oxidation, typical of long-buried Sultanate copper coinage.

Beschrijving keerzijde Reverse field dominated by a compact Arabic inscription in bold Naskh script, filling the irregular flan without a border. The legend, referencing the ruler Muzaffar Shah III, is struck in high relief with characteristically broad strokes associated with Gujarat Sultanate hammered copper coinage. The surface shows an uneven strike typical of hand-struck tankas of this period, with patchy green verdigris and brown copper toning across the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Muzaffar Shah III was the last independent sultan of Gujarat, restored to the throne in 1561 after Akbar's forces briefly occupied Ahmedabad. His reign was defined by repeated Mughal encroachment, and he was finally deposed and captured by Akbar in 1572 — the campaign that formally annexed Gujarat into the Mughal Empire. Coins struck in his name thus span both his genuine sovereignty and the desperate final years of a sultanate that had endured for over 150 years.

He died in Mughal captivity in 1593.
