| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a hexagonal cartouche containing a multi-line Arabic inscription in relief, giving the name and titles of the ruler Shams al-Din b. Diya' al-Din. The legend is arranged in horizontal lines within the geometric frame, executed in a bold Naskh script. Small ornamental devices, possibly stars or floral motifs, are visible in the outer field surrounding the cartouche. The flan is irregular and slightly broader than the die, characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the period. |
