Qutb-ud-Din Bahadur Shah ruled Gujarat at the peak of its sultanate's power, but his reign was defined almost entirely by conflict with the Mughal emperor Humayun, who invaded and briefly occupied Gujarat twice in the 1530s. Bahadur Shah was killed in 1537 during a meeting with Portuguese officials off Diu — almost certainly thrown overboard — making his coinage among the last issues of an independent Gujarat before Mughal absorption effectively ended the sultanate's autonomy.
