The Aq Qoyunlu confederation reached its territorial apex under Uzun Hasan, but by 1478 the dynasty was fragmenting. Khalil, one of several sons contesting succession after Uzun Hasan's death in 1478, held power only briefly before being displaced by his brother Ya'qub. Coins struck in his name are consequently scarce — his reign measured in months, not years.
