The inscription reads 'al-khalifat amir al-mu'minin khulidat khilafatuhu' (the caliph, commander of the faithful, may his caliphate endure), a formula standard on Firuz Shah Tughluq's billon issues. Letters are boldly engraved and occupy the full flan with no decorative borders or devices. The reverse, like the obverse, is devoid of figural imagery in conformity with Islamic numismatic convention. Minor strike weakness and planchet irregularity are characteristic of the hammered billon tankas of this reign. |
