Amara Manikya ruled Tripura from roughly 1577 to 1585, a period of persistent conflict with the Mughal-backed Bengal Sultanate. The tanka denomination itself was inherited from the Bengal Sultanate's monetary system — its adoption by Tripura's rulers reflects the political and commercial pressures facing a small hill kingdom navigating between larger powers.
KM#90 is sparsely documented in the major auction records, and surviving examples are infrequently offered.
