Obverse description The obverse displays multiple lines of bold Arabic script in Naskh style filling the entire field, divided horizontally by a raised linear band. The royal titulature of Sultan Mahmud Shah is inscribed across the face in deeply struck, raised lettering. The last two digits of the AH date appear to the lower left of the field. The flan is irregular and slightly curved, characteristic of hammered gold coinage of the Malwa Sultanate. No figurative imagery is present; the design relies entirely on the calligraphic inscription as its primary artistic and identifying element.
