Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend struck in a bold, angular hand characteristic of Bengal Sultanate coinage. The inscription, distributed across several lines within an unbordered field, reads the royal titulature of Ala al-Din Husain Shah: 'Al-Sultan al-Adil Ala al-Dunya wa al-Din Abu al-Muzaffar'. The lettering is deeply struck on the large, irregularly shaped flan, with the script showing the regional Naskh style typical of late fifteenth-century Bengal mint practice. Portions of the legend approach the rim, reflecting the broad flan type that distinguishes this issue from the standard-flan coinage of the same sultan.

Additional information

Ala al-Din Husain Shah ruled Bengal for over two decades and is widely regarded as one of the most capable sultans the region produced — his reign saw significant territorial expansion into Assam and Orissa, and a degree of religious tolerance unusual for the period. The large flan format of this tanka type is a deliberate departure from the thicker, smaller flans common to earlier Bengal issues, producing a broader, thinner coin that displays the die work more fully.

GG#B761 places this among the documented varieties catalogued by Goron and Goenka. The extended date range reflects a type struck consistently across much of his reign rather than a single year emission.
