Ahmad Göde ruled the Aq Qoyunlu confederation at its moment of collapse. By 1497, the dynasty founded by Uzun Hasan had fractured into competing claimants, and Ahmad Göde's hold on Erzincan — a secondary mint far from the old power centers of Tabriz and Diyarbakır — reflects how badly the confederation's territorial coherence had deteriorated. The Safavids under Shah Ismail I would extinguish Aq Qoyunlu power entirely within a decade.
Erzincan as a mint city had long served eastern Anatolia's silver trade routes connecting the Black Sea interior to Tabriz markets. A coin struck there in 1497 circulated in a region already being contested by Ottoman expansion from the west.
