Obverse description Facing bust of the crowned king Leo I (Levon) within a raised inner circle, depicted with a stylised crown bearing pellets and a frontal visage rendered in the flat, hieratic manner characteristic of medieval Armenian coinage. Two pellets flank the king's face at shoulder level. Surrounding the inner circle, a broad marginal band carries the Armenian legend ԼԵԻՈՆ ԹԱԳ[ԱՈՐ Հ]ԱՅԻՈՑ (Levon, King of the Armenians) in raised Armenian script, separated from the coin's irregular, crenellated edge by a raised border.
