Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King João VI facing right, occupying the central field of the flan. A circular legend in Latin runs along the inner border, partially obscured by the irregular hammered edge. The portrait is rendered in a somewhat crude provincial style characteristic of the Goa mint's hammered coinage of the early nineteenth century. A toothed or roped inner border frames the design.
