| Obverse description | Central crowned coat of arms of Portugal, featuring the quartered royal shield with castles and escutcheons, surmounted by a royal crown. The mint marks 'C' and 'Lº', denoting the Ceilão (Ceylon) mint, flank the shield to left and right respectively within the field. The design is rendered in the crude hammered style typical of Portuguese colonial coinage of the period, set within a beaded border. |
