Sigismund III Vasa inherited the Swedish throne in 1592, creating a brief and politically explosive moment in which a single monarch ruled both Poland-Lithuania and Sweden simultaneously. These talers were struck at Stockholm during that union — a production run that ended when the Swedish Riksdag deposed Sigismund in 1599, replacing him with his uncle Charles IX. The Stockholm mint's involvement in Commonwealth coinage was therefore a direct function of dynastic accident, not monetary policy.
The four Kopiski references correspond to distinct die variants across the 1594–1598 span, making this one of the more systematically catalogued taler series of the period.
