Obverse description The national coat of arms of Western Samoa occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a coconut palm and the Southern Cross constellation of five stars, the whole encircled by a globe and flanked by two olive branches. A Christian cross surmounts the crest above the shield. A scroll below the arms bears the national motto FAAVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA. The country name SAMOA I SISIFO arcs along the upper legend, while the denomination $1 appears in the lower field.
