| Obverse description | The central field features the coat of arms of Western Samoa, comprising a quartered shield displaying a coconut palm above stylised waves in the upper half and five stars of the Southern Cross in the lower half, flanked by two olive branches and surmounted by a Latin cross. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto FAAVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA. The date 1970 flanks the cross at the top of the arms, with the country name SAMOA I SISIFO arcing along the upper legend.
