Central to the design is the National Emblem of Bangladesh, featuring a water lily enclosed within an octagonal frame bearing the face value. The emblem is flanked on either side by rice ears, with a three-leaf spray of tea leaves surmounting the design. Four stars appear above the emblem, symbolising the founding constitutional principles of nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy as enshrined in the 1972 constitution. The legend ONE TAKA appears within the octagonal border. The overall design is executed in a formal heraldic style typical of official state emblems. |

The reverse bears a central portrait effigy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of the nation, facing slightly to the right. The legend গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশ সরকার, translating to 'Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh,' arcs along the upper field in Bengali script. To the left of the portrait appears the denomination in Bengali script (এক টাকা) and in Bengali numeral (১), while to the right the Arabic numeral 1 is inscribed. The year of issue and the country name BANGLADESH in both Bengali and Latin scripts appear along the lower portion of the field. |
