Bangladesh's first monetary instruments were produced before the country had any printing infrastructure of its own. This 1 Taka note was pressed at Nashik — the same facility that had long served the Reserve Bank of India — an arrangement that reflected both the speed of Bangladesh's emergence as a state in December 1971 and the depth of its dependence on Indian logistical support in those first months.
K. A. Jaman signed as Finance Secretary rather than a central bank governor because the Bangladesh Bank, though legally established in 1972, was not yet the authority over small-denomination currency. The 1 Taka remained a Finance Ministry instrument for decades afterward.
