Obverse description At centre, a raised disc bears a single incuse Chinese ideogram within the field. Surrounding this central device, four large Chinese ideograms are arranged in a cross pattern, reading top to bottom and right to left. Manchu script appears above the central device, and additional Chinese ideograms are disposed around the periphery of the field. The entire design is enclosed by an undulating, wave-form decorative border. The legends collectively identify the issuing authority as the Board of Revenue (Hu Bu), the reign of the Guangxu Emperor, the cyclical year Bingwu (丙午, corresponding to 1906), and the denomination as one tael of Great Qing silver currency.
