Popis líce The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an oval shield surmounted by a condor with wings displayed. The shield features a solar disc rising over Mount Chimborazo with a steamship navigating the river at its base, flanked by four national flags and framed by laurel and palm branches tied at the base with a fasces. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters. The date appears in the lower field beneath the shield. A continuous beaded border frames the entire design.

Další informace

Ecuador's nickel coinage of this period was produced under contract at the Philadelphia Mint, a common arrangement for smaller Latin American nations that lacked domestic minting capacity. The sucre itself was named after Antonio José de Sucre, the Venezuelan-born general who secured Ecuadorian independence at the Battle of Pichincha in 1822. The KM#78.1 and 78.2 varieties differ in minor die details, most notably edge and planchet specifications adjusted between production runs.
