Beschrijving keerzijde Within a raised rectangular border formed by a continuous row of raised pellets, the four-digit date is struck in large bold numerals across the central field. The overall fabric is characteristic of hand-hammered copper issues produced for circulation in Java under the Batavian administration, with the pellet border framing the date on all sides.

Aanvullende informatie

The Netherlands East Indies administered by Louis Napoleon's puppet government in Batavia struck these copper stuivers during one of the most chaotic periods in Dutch colonial history. France had transformed the Batavian Republic into the Kingdom of Holland in 1806, and the colonial administration in Java was left scrambling to maintain a functioning monetary supply while Napoleon tightened his grip on the parent state. The VOC had dissolved in 1799 under the weight of corruption and debt, leaving the colonial government to sort out the monetary mess.

Louis Napoleon abolished the Kingdom of Holland entirely in 1810, annexing it directly into France — effectively ending the issuing authority mid-series.
