Zeeland maintained its own mint with considerable autonomy throughout the Dutch Republic period, and the provincial stuiver coinage reflects that independence — Zeeland's issues frequently deviated from the resolutions passed by the States-General attempting to standardize small silver across the seven provinces. The billon fineness itself was a recurring point of contention, with periodic accusations that provincial mints were striking below the agreed standard to maximize seigniorage revenue.
The long production span across nearly eight decades means die varieties are numerous and not fully catalogued. Collectors working the HPM reference will find Ver#94.3 covers only a subset of the known emission dates.
