The VOC was in terminal decline by the time these stuivers were being struck, the company quietly insolvent from the 1780s onward and surviving only through repeated bailouts from the Dutch state. It was formally dissolved in 1799, meaning this issue was produced during the organization's death years — circulating in colonial trading posts whose administration was already collapsing around them.
